A deep look at every feature that comes with Homeschool Premium.
Document every learning moment with photos and videos, straight from your camera or photo library. Hipling automatically compresses images through a 3-pass adaptive pipeline to balance quality and storage, and handles HDR-to-SDR video transcoding so everything looks consistent. Videos can be trimmed with a visual timeline editor before saving, with a 30-second maximum duration. EXIF GPS data is automatically extracted from photos to record where learning happened, and reverse geocoded into a readable address. Every file is copied to persistent storage on your device so nothing is ever lost, even offline.
Turn worksheets, art projects, and handwritten work into clean digital records using the native document scanner powered by Apple VisionKit on iOS and ML Kit on Android. Choose between black-and-white mode for crisp text documents or full-color mode for artwork and colorful materials. Scan up to 25 pages in a single session, and Hipling combines them into a single PDF with an auto-generated thumbnail. You can also import existing PDFs directly from your device's file picker, supporting files up to 25 MB and 100 pages.
Search millions of books via the Open Library database and add them to your homeschool record with a single tap. Book metadata including title, author, ISBN, page count, cover image, and publisher are automatically imported. Track pages read per session and watch your reading progress build over time. Each book gets its own detail screen showing total reading time (summed from all logged activities), a progress bar, and a timeline of every reading session. Books can be linked to specific students and subjects, and the cover image is automatically uploaded to cloud storage for cross-device access.
Photograph the cover and table of contents of any textbook or workbook, and Hipling Intelligence extracts the entire curriculum structure in seconds. The AI identifies the book title, author, subject, and ISBN from the cover, then parses every unit and lesson from the table of contents pages. The extracted structure is loaded into the Curriculum Builder where you can edit unit and lesson titles, reorder content, and assign it to a student and subject. As your child works through the curriculum, mark lessons complete by logging moments against them. A progress bar tracks overall completion, and each completed lesson links directly to the moment that documented it.
The compose flow is the heart of Hipling. Add photos, videos, scanned documents, imported PDFs, books, or text notes to a single moment. Tag it with subjects, collections, and students. Add optional metadata: time spent (in quarter-hour increments), date, time of day, location (with map preview), and free-form notes. Choose which folder to save to with a searchable folder picker that shows breadcrumb paths. Every moment automatically generates activity log entries that power your attendance, hours tracking, and insights dashboards. When tagging multiple subjects, hours are evenly divided across them.
Hipling Intelligence derives attendance automatically from the moments you log. Set a daily hours threshold per student (for example, 4 hours), and any day where logged hours meet that threshold is automatically counted as a school day. No manual check-ins required. Set an annual goal (like 180 days) and track progress throughout the year with a visual heatmap calendar showing every school day color-coded by hours. You can manually override any day, adding school days for field trips or co-op activities that weren't logged as moments, or removing days for sick days and breaks. The attendance dashboard shows your current count vs. goal, daily streaks, and whether you're ahead, on track, or behind.
Every moment you log with hours automatically contributes to per-student, per-subject time tracking. See exactly how many hours each child has spent on Math, Science, Language Arts, and every other subject, broken down by day, week, month, or year. Stacked area charts visualize daily subject distribution, and a subject balance donut chart reveals which subjects are getting the most attention and which need more focus. Weekly hours are charted across all 52 weeks of the school year with interactive bars you can scrub through. Year-end summaries show total hours, weekly averages, and subjects that need attention.
Record grades per student, per subject, per term with flexible grading scales. Choose from letter grades (A+ through F), percentage (0-100), points-based, or a combined mode with custom text fields. Configure grading periods as quarters, semesters, or custom-defined periods. Grades are entered directly on a per-subject grid with instant save. Each grade entry creates an activity log record so your grade history appears in the timeline alongside moments and attendance. Grading can be disabled per student if not needed, keeping the insights dashboard clean.
Generate comprehensive student progress reports as both downloadable PDFs and shareable web links. Reports include attendance summaries (total hours, daily averages, days with activities), per-subject hour breakdowns with color coding, grade entries organized by term, curriculum completion progress, and books read. Configure date ranges for any period, toggle whether to include zero-hour subjects, summary statistics, and grades. Choose between per-term or final-only grade display. Reports are rendered as styled HTML pages that can be printed via the native print dialog or shared as a link at share.hipling.com, no account required to view.
Create beautiful, shareable public links for any moment. Select which files to include (up to 50 photos, videos, and documents), add a custom title and caption, and generate a link at share.hipling.com. The shared page features a responsive media carousel with dot navigation, subject pills, student identification, location and date metadata, and individual file captions. Shared pages include full Open Graph meta tags for rich previews on social media and messaging apps, with automatic OG image selection from your moment's media. Revoke any share link at any time from the Shared Posts screen in settings.
Add unlimited students to your homeschool, each with their own name, grade level, date of birth, color, and avatar photo. Every student gets a distinct color used throughout the app for instant visual identification in moments, insights charts, attendance calendars, and activity timelines. Drag-to-reorder your student list to set a preferred display order. Tag multiple students in a single moment when they're learning together, with each student getting their own activity log entry for accurate per-student tracking. Per-student insights dashboards show individual attendance, subject hours, grades, curriculum progress, and book reading history.
See everywhere learning has happened on an interactive map. Hipling automatically extracts GPS coordinates from photo EXIF data and reverse geocodes them into readable addresses. Moments are grouped into pin clusters by location, with each pin colored by the students tagged in those moments. Tap any pin to see a bottom sheet listing every moment captured at that location, with student color dots, titles, and relative dates. The map supports full zoom, pan, and both light and dark themes.
A full analytics suite with interactive charts and multiple visualization modes. The Insights Explorer lets you slice data by subjects or collections, measure hours or post counts, and view results as donut charts or bar charts, with percentage or absolute count display. Choose from daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly time ranges. Per-student dashboards include stacked area charts for subject distribution over time, subject balance donut charts, weekly hour bar charts across 52 weeks, daily goal calendars with per-day moment progress rings, curriculum and book progress sections, and year-end summary cards that tell you if you're ahead, on track, or behind your annual goal.
Organize your entire homeschool record with a flexible folder system. Create custom folders and nest them to any depth. Smart folders use configurable filters to automatically surface the right moments: filter by students, subjects, custom tags, date ranges, or media types (photos, videos, documents). Folders show cover images from their contents and activity counts. Within any folder, view sub-categories for media files vs. documents. The shelf also surfaces your curricula and books alongside folders for a unified view of everything in your homeschool.
Organize moments by type with built-in collections like Lesson, Art Project, Field Trip, Class, Book, and Video, or create your own with custom names and emoji. Collections appear as toggleable pills when composing a moment, and each collection gets its own browsable view showing every tagged moment with cover images and item counts. Custom tags are stored alongside subject tags on each moment, giving you a second dimension of organization beyond subjects. Filter your shelf, insights, and reports by collection to see exactly the slice of your homeschool record you need.
Browse every photo and video across your entire homeschool in a beautiful grid layout. Sort chronologically (newest or oldest first) and filter by month or custom date range. The gallery uses a high-performance grid that handles thousands of items smoothly, with video playback directly in the grid (up to two videos play simultaneously as you scroll). Tap any item to open a full-screen viewer with swipe navigation across all media in the moment. From the viewer, you can share moments, view details, or navigate to the parent folder.
Log field trips separately from regular moments, with dedicated fields for trip name, location, date, time, and notes. Each field trip is tracked per student and creates an activity log entry so it counts toward attendance and appears in your timeline. Browse all field trips in a dedicated list view sorted by most recent, with easy edit and delete options. Field trips are perfect for documenting museum visits, nature walks, co-op days, and other out-of-home learning experiences that might not have associated photos or files.
Every photo, video, and document is securely stored in Hipling Cloud with 50 GB of included storage. Files are uploaded automatically in the background via encrypted connections, with intelligent retry on network failures. The app works fully offline: all your data lives locally in an on-device database, and changes sync automatically when you reconnect. A 4-tier media resolution system ensures your files are always accessible: checking local storage first, then persistent disk cache, then download cache, and finally cloud storage. Cross-device sync means your homeschool record is always up to date on every device signed into your account.
